Text of the exhibition FreeSpace 2002 in Z33. Weidenbaum's work goes back to a number of archetypes: the tree, man, animals, life and death, energy and branches. Material and patina play an important role in Weidenbaum's sculptures, paintings and drawings. Weidenbaum seems to conceive of art as a zone in which contact with a reality above or below the visible world can be sought or restored from a mystical experience of material and forms.
