Out of the serie: Agadir 2009 2011
This Serie consists of 18 works
In 2008, Peter Weidenbaum went to Morocco for the second time. This after having already stayed there once in 2004. Between 2009 and 2011, a series of paintings entitled Agadir was created. The works in this series are built up in a sober colour pattern, creating a silence over the image. As a result, the work becomes formal and reminiscent of the paintings by Belgian symbolist Leon Spilliaert.
Weidenbaum's Orientalism is far removed from exotic scenes such as harem scenes, figures by palm trees, fiery horses, arabesques, camels, minarets, arch portals and the like. Rather, it is a dismantling of this view of the Arab world.
