Out of the serie: Daswald 2003

This Serie consists of 26 works

Each tells its story. Sometimes just color.

The last images ditto series of paintings have their origin in the walks, with Joyce, my wife, and the three children, which we made in the Czech forests and closer here in the Meerdalwoud and the Molendaelbos. The smell, the light. The first time you take a certain path, the whole has the strongest effect on you. New shapes, strange crowns. the sunlight here softly touches the ocher colored earth. Substrates take you into the most alienating atmospheres. The warm moist soil soaks through your clothes. Moss, a few meters away, groups of ferns, dancing in the wind. A shadow! Sometimes we leave the path. Leaves caress your face. Fragrances get stronger. Brambles grab you by the legs. The forest begins to lead you away. You are strange here. Look between the crowns of floating cloud masses. The world around the forest. You take the forest into your head. The smell becomes turpentine. Leaves become sheets of paper. You cleave the stone in plaster. You absorb the surface in torn cotton. Fibres, memories, pigments are intertwined. Green and blue become gray. The etching press turns, branches creaking, they cast black lines on the wet paper. I stand outside, see floating cloud masses and know, for a moment I was part of the whole thing. Text by Peter Weidenbaum for the exhibition Daswald in ‘Het Elzenveld’, Antwerp, 2004
